When using your Brother MFC L2700DW printer, there will come a time when you will eventually need to replace the DR-630 drum cartridge. Depending on the print job volume, the drum cartridge will need to be replaced once every 3-4 Brother TN-660 toner cartridges. The machine will let you know it's time by displaying “Replace Drum” on the LCD display screen.

Visual indicators in your prints can also tell you it's time for your Brother MFC L2700DW to have a drum replacement. As the drum unit draws nearer to its life's end, you will begin to see striations, marks or dark blemishes along the edge of the page. When you start to see these signs, it's always wise to have a drum replacement lined up in case you're hit with an emergency print job.

How to replace the drum on Brother MFC L2700DW:

1. Turn your Brother MFC L2700DW machine on.

2. Open the front cover.

Grab the handles on each side of the cover door and tug firmly.

3. Remove the toner and drum unit assembly.

Grab the unit by the handle and pull out firmly. The toner and drum unit assembly will come out together as a single unit.

4. Push the green lock lever and detach toner cartridge from the drum unit.

The green lock lever can be found on the lower, left-hand corner of the drum unit. When the green lock lever is pushed down, the toner cartridge is released and can be removed from the drum unit.

5. Open new drum unit.

Remove the new drum unit from its packaging and any seals or packing materials that it came with.

6. Insert toner cartridge into new drum unit.

If done correctly, you can hear the green lock lever snap the toner cartridge into place.

7. Clean the corona wire.

Use the green tab found on the corner of the DR-630 drum unit. Slide the green tab from one end to the other, several times. When you’re finished, make sure the green tab is back in its original position, which is marked by an arrow.

8. Insert the toner and drum cartridge unit back in the Brother MFC L2700DW.

Maneuver the toner and drum unit assembly in a way that it glides right in and locks firmly into place.

9. Close the front cover of the Brother MFC L2700DW.

You have now replaced the DR-630 drum cartridge in your Brother MFC L2700DW.

But there seems to be a problem. Even after we replaced the drum, the screen still shows the “Replace Drum” message.

This is completely normal.

Anytime you replace the drum, you must follow it up by resetting the drum counter.

How to reset drum on Brother MFC L2700DW:

1. Open the front cover.

2. Press and hold the green ‘OK’ button for 2+ seconds.

Hold the ‘OK’ button until you see the message “Replace Drum?” on your display screen.

3. Press “1” to answer “Yes” then press “OK”.

4. Close the front cover.

Allow the machine to process the reset and check the display screen. The “Replace Drum” message should have disappeared and the printer should now be in Ready Mode.

Great! You have now completed the drum reset on your Brother MFC L2700DW. You can now resume printing, copying, scanning, or faxing!
